Bordering on redundancy re: previous post, but a truly excellent article by Corey about tomorrow’s show with Mountains, Hank Roberts, Why the Wires [see: aforementioned blog post]. He interviewed Koen of Mountains — from the interview, which appears in this week’s Ithaca Times:
“Performing is the composition,” states Holtkamp. “We won’t play anything off the last […]

This THURSDAY, APRIL 30, I’m thrilled to present Thrill Jockey recording artists MOUNTAINS live in concert for the first time in Ithaca. Cello virtuoso HANK ROBERTS — who will have just returned from a lengthy tour in Europe with Marc Ducret and Jim Black — will open (in his first Popcorn Youth appearance!) with an intimate […]

Two Windy & Carl articles

There are two great articles to be found about tomorrow’s Windy & Carl with Benoit Pioulard concert. The first is to be found in the Ithaca Times, as written by Nick Carr. An excerpt from Nick’s interview:
“We experiment with our instruments, trying new things, finding new ways to play them, and then work with sounds […]

Your venerable arts editor will be on air tonight as a judge for this week’s episode of WVBR’s University of Rock in which local bands cover the song “Luck Be A Lady.” Tune in at 93.5FM to listen from 7:30-9:30pm. Finally, my dreams of being Paula Abdul on American Idol, actualized! [WVBR]

Magik Markers - Balf Quarry tracks

NICE! TWO KILLER TRACKS FROM NEW MARKERS ALBUM ‘BALF QUARRY’ POSTED HERE. SOMETHING TO GET YOU STOKED FOR ITHACA CONCERT JUNE 26. ONLY TOURING 4 DATES - ALL 4 SHOWS WITH MOUTHUS, WHO ARE OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED TO PLAY. [via Raven Sings the Blues]

Tonight: Another pair of two very different shows. Team Love darlings and shameless Bob Dylan-aping band The Felice Brothers returns to Castaways for the third time in almost exactly a year — almost to the day, actually [they played Castaways Thursday, April 24, 2008 and then again later last year]. It’s not surprising — their […]

TONIGHT! Two concerts - as different as could be. Neko Case at the State Theatre [Buy ‘Middle Cyclone,’ now, if you haven’t already, if only for her Sparks cover], and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at the Haunt. Luckily, there should be very little if any overlap, as the Ithaca Underground punk show is early [and all […]

Due to a death in the family, the Marco Benevento / Nathan Moore concert slated for this Friday at Castaways has been canceled. I’ve been told that they’re trying to reschedule for this fall. Our sincerest condolences for Marco’s loss, and we hope to see him in Ithaca soon.

Well, it’s already Wednesday, and spring definitely feels as though it’s here to stay. Here are some things to get you through hump day, as well as our weekly show calendar.
Some fun things on NPR this week — including this ridiculously weird and fascinating triangle-only CD by Cajun royalty Christine Balfa, and this nice playlist […]
