Still excited for magik markers… plus other stuff.

So, I completely dropped the ball on stuff that’s been happening in the last few days. That’s because I’ve been busy planning… planning for our future. A future filled with shows featuring Magik Markers, Mouthus, Weirding Module, Trigal, Why the Wires and more. Planning big shows and small shows, public shows and basement shows… this year rules already. But, a brief recap in the form of photos, shall we?
The first Popcorn Youth show of the year went great, thanks to the appreciative crowd and awesome musicians. Completely bizarre moonlight contributed to this two-tone purple/orange pic of American Sphinx.
Major props to Bubba of Ithaca Underground for a great show on Sunday night featuring (((microwaves))), a Pittsburg PA-based spazz grindcore two-piece (the third member left to join Don Cabellero). Think in the vein of AIDS Wolf, Melt Banana, The Locust. Pretty fun stuff. Fast and to the point, maybe a little “bro” in attitude (didn’t really appreciate the drummer’s comment at the beginning of their set, “glad to see that at least all the duuuudes stuck around for us”) but appreciated their antics nonetheless. Finally caught local band Why the Wires for the first time, and liked them so much I booked them to play with Mountains and Hank Roberts on April 30, yeah!
Last night was quite busy, thanks to a gluttony of events — George Thorogood, AC Newman, Chicken Fried String Band, and Orbiting Art Ensemble all in one night — phew! I was particularly excited to see AC Newman play in the (relatively) teeny Castaways stage, and got some good snaps in the process. Who was that dude who kept clapping loudly to all of the songs? He was so loud, Newman felt compelled to comment on his prowess. Newman may have liked it, but I definitely didn’t. Anyway, they played ‘Miracle Drug’ right away, so that kept me pretty happy, and all the new songs from his new record sounded great! Come back soon, Carl!
Caught quite a bit of the Orbiting Art Ensemble, which was like a soul-fried mashup of Tzar and Jsan & the Analogue Sons. Another great O.A.E. night!
