Last Saturday, San Francisco duo Sic Alps performed their feedback-heavy garage-psych jams at No Radio Records. Sic Alps’ demented and dense lo-fi grooves summon the 60s era — the decade that gave birth to The Stooges, Syd Barrett and Soft Machine — in ways that have been compared to Royal Trux, Ariel Pink, and the […]

The Ithaca Times’ cover story this week [’State of the Art’, Oct 24, pg. 8] is a fascinating profile and interview with renowned composer Steven Stucky, who has resided in Ithaca and been a member of Cornell’s Department of Music faculty for many years. This Sunday evening, Stucky will present a regional premiere of his […]

A few things:
—Polish composer Zygmunt Krauze will be presenting a lecture this afternoon around 1pm in Lincoln Hall. I wish I knew more details, but I just found out this morning. His concert last night, “The Last Recital,” was excellent! And his original compositions, “Stone Music” and “Gloves Music,” were some of the most dynamic […]

Accomplished Polish composer Zygmunt Krauze will be presenting a free concert at Cornell’s Barnes Hall tonight. This is definitely an event not to be missed! The following is a portion from the press release that I received about this event.

I finally uploaded photos from another epic weekend of live music — Friday was the enormously fun Bill Nace + Harrius [they’re 50% based in Baltimore, so Jess Harvell is a fan! Read his review here] + Burnt Hills show over at the Flipped Out Records headquarters in Albany. A major thank you to them […]

Weekend Shows

Tonight, the good folks of Flipped Out Records are hosting a show at their Burnt Hills headquarters over in Albany. Burnt Hills will take the stage with Bill Nace (of X.O.4, Northhampton Wools, Vampire Belt) and Harrius (which is Jenny Graf Sheppard of Metalux and Chiara Giovando, pictured above, who we have seen perform with […]

Percussionist Tim Feeney and violist Wendy Richman will present a free concert this Friday at Barnes Hall. You can read more about it here. Much like everything else Tim does musically, we’re sure the event will be excellent. The following is part of the press release I received concerning Friday’s event. I highly recommend this […]

We’ll be out of town this weekend (more on that later!), but there are a few choice shows this weekend if you want to catch some good local music. Beatboxer Adam Matta — an NYC-based performer who we’ve seen in some good shows and some not-so-good shows — is currently an artist-in-residence at Cornell’s Risley […]

Uncommon Sonorities

I’m really excited to introduce a new music column to the Ithaca Times. Aaron (see Ithaca Experimental) has written his first installment of what we hope will become a monthly addition to the paper. It’s titled Uncommon Sonorities, and this month discusses performances by Alan Licht, Aki Onda, Tim Feeney, Wendy Richman, Century Plants, and […]

Last night we caught Brooklyn duo Matt and Kim at Cornell’s Risley Hall. The sound there wasn’t the best, but the space itself was beautiful and seemed perfect, if a bit stately, for the duo. You could tell they were really into it — when I told Matt about it, he was like, “It’s like […]

Sorry for lack of posting. I decided Friday would be a good time to start this show, and then my weekend disappeared. Funny how that happens. I did get some photos from Friday’s No Radio show, though. Thanks to the folks over at Ithaca Underground for making this happen, and thanks to Entente Cordiale and […]

This Friday, Ithaca Underground will host a show at No Radio Records. We don’t know too much about the headliners, Human Host (described as “Experimental Theatrical Craziness from Baltimore”), but one of the openers, Stone Baby, comes highly recommended by the folks over at Ithaca Experimental.
Led by Cory Card, Stone Baby is a prominent player […]

Music venue Death by Audio is located in Williamsburg (near Glasslands), and we often find out about their shows through the Todd P emails we get. Unfortunately, it’s one of the Brooklyn venues that we haven’t been to yet. But judging by the looks of this weekend’s lineup, we’ll have to rectify the situation immediately. […]

I just found out that Kronos Quartet will be performing tonight at Herkimer County Community College as the college’s inaugural concert for the “Robert H. Wood Great Artists Series.” The performance begins at 8pm. Click here for ticket info. From what we can tell, the drive is about two hours.
